John Clare, founder of Clare’s Cycle & Sports Ltd and Clare’s Harley-Davidson passed away March 1, 2025.

John Clare was born in 1934 in Welland, Ontario, he began riding at the age of 15 and established Clare’s Cycle & Sports in 1955, celebrating its 70th anniversary in 2025. Among his many achievements, his most notable being the Deeley Harley-Davidson Canada Lifetime Achievement Award, Welland Sports Hall of Fame and induction into the Canadian Motorcycle Hall of Fame.

John Clare passion and dedication shaped the powersports industry as a lifelong racer, sponsor, and advocate, John competed in nearly every motorcycle sport, earning the title of Canadian Enduro Champion in the 1970s. He played a key role in industry leadership and training initiatives in Canada.

Clare’s legacy lives on through his family, business, and continued support of the racing community.

John Clare’s impact on motorcycling is immeasurable. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
